  • President Don Assaid opened the meeting at noon and welcomed Club Members and Guests.Next, he led the members with the pledge of Allegiance and with prayer.

  • President Don Assaid thanked everyone for being here today.

  • Members were reminded

    • To purchase 50/50 tickets before eating lunch.

    • To make a donation to the Christian Food Pantry by check, please make it payable to the Virginia State Club.

  • Please remember that today is our last Club meeting until September 6th, so please have a safe summer. If you are a seasonal resident, enjoy your trip back home and we will look forward to welcoming you back in the Fall.

  • If you are interested in going on the Club trip to Grandview Farms on November 13th, please visit the table in the back and sign up today. The cost is $120 per person. Since we will be boarding the bus at 5 PM, you will have to plan on an early dinner or bring snacks on the bus. We need 20 people to make this trip viable.

  • Also, a reminder that we need to elect a new Board this Fall-President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and Member-At-Large, so if you or someone you know is interested please contact Walt or Debbie Chalkley or Don Assaid at your earliest convenience.

  • As mentioned last meeting, we will be voting today on 2 issues-1)raising our annual dues from $10 per person to $15 per person per year, effective January 2026 and 2) charging a guest fee of $5 to attend our luncheons effective at our September meeting. We will conduct the vote immediately after lunch at our business meeting.

  • Next the tables were called for lunch.

Treasurer’s Report For The Month of April 2025

  • May 3, 2025-Balance- $3,343.07

  • Donna Gaines announced the new members and guests in attendance: Gloria Luke, Chesapeake; Kathy Corbit, Winchester; James Allen, Tidewater; Dave and Brenda Avalon, Gladehill. New members included William and Terry Kennedy, Yorktown; Danielle and Drew Blake, Roanoke; Charlie and Janice Tiedeken, Newport News.

  • Debbie Chalkley, Nominating Committee, discussed again that volunteers to run for the open Board positions for 2026 to be voted on in the Fall on to include President, Vice-President, Treasurer, Secretary and Member-At-Large. As stated before lunch contact her or Walt Chalkley or Don Assaid if interested. As a reminder the duties of the positions and election information are below:

    • Nominees will be presented and election in October 2025.

    • Swearing in of new Board in November 2025.

    • President duties-overseeing club functioning; organizing recreation center space for monthly meetings; running monthly meetings

    • Vice-President-steps in for President if unavailable; responsible for monthly entertainment/events

    • Treasurer-oversees all financial aspects of club (handles dues/nametags/charitable money, handles reimbursement for entertainment and supplies, deposits money, tracks income and expenditures for club, prepares monthly report).

    • Secretary-Orders name tags, takes meeting minutes and types report, assists with enrolling new members and guests.

    • Debbie also discussed the upcoming Silent Auction at our October meeting at Ezell.

  • Next, President Don Assaid presented the motion to be voted on of raising dues for 2026 to $15.

    • After a discussion with membership, the motion was overwhelming approved by the Club. Starting with January 2026 yearly dues will now be $15 per person.

    • The next motion of charging a $5 per guest was not passed following a discussion and vote with the membership in attendance.

  • The Derby hat contest has many participants and the first place winner was Sharon Kirk!

  • Wanda Sheffield introduced the Derby Race announcer and MC, Steve Chaimowitz and then explained the Derby horse race procedures for placing bets, jockey volunteers and how the races worked. 6 races with 6 horses were completed and many people went home with successful bets! Lots of laughter and fun with this event occurred!

  • Don reminded anyone to pick up name tags at back of table if one was ordered.

  • The 50/50 tickets were drawn with 2 winners of $35 and $30 each!

  • Our next Meeting will be at Colony Rec. Center on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at noon. Musical entertainment will be Dave Capp and France Neil at this meeting!

  • There will be NO meeting in June, July and August 2025. Remember to check out the Club’s Facebook page for future event information.
